A “close nipple” is distinguished by its absence of unthreaded sections, allowing minimal exposure when securely fastened between two female fittings. Removal of a close nipple can be challenging; it often requires the use of a pipe wrench on one threaded end, which may damage the threads, necessitating replacement.
